Parts WorkTherapy
You feel tangled up inside. Too many thoughts and strong emotions leave you feeling lost and confused.
You're complex. And there's an approach built for exactly that.
I help people who feel stuck, confused, or like they can't quite figure out who they really are using a parts-based approach that gets underneath the surface to where change actually happens.
Ever had a thought that didn't feel like yours?
Maybe you've acted in ways that were the opposite of what you actually wanted. Some days you love your partner, and others you can't stand them, and you don't know why.
You feel tangled up inside. Decisions become paralyzing.
Emotions come out of nowhere and don't make sense.
Maybe you've tried therapy. But something still feels off, like you're watching yourself from the outside, unable to figure out what's actually going on in there.
You’ve described it different ways.
"I don't really know who I am."
"It feels like someone else takes over."
"My emotions go from 0 to 100 and I don't know why."
"I've tried everything. Nothing is working."
"Any little thing will set me off and I don't know why."
You may have tried coping strategies and felt like they weren't really landing. Like there's a layer underneath everything that you just can't seem to reach.
You feel like you're missing something. You can't seem to feel regulated/clarity you crave. You just don't have a way in.
That’s where Parts Work therapy can help.
What’s Actually Going On
Think of it this way.
Imagine you're on a bus and you're supposed to be driving. But right now, one of the passengers has taken the wheel, and they don't have a license. You feel muddled, out of control, unsure who you actually are underneath it all.
That's what it can feel like when parts of you are running the show without your awareness.
Here's what I believe: you are not a problem to be fixed. You are a complex human being made up of different parts, all of them trying to help you in some way. Some parts protect. Some carry old pain. Some are doing a job they learned a long time ago that doesn't quite fit your life anymore.
Parts work gives us a way to find them, understand what they need, and build something new between them, so that you can get back in the driver's seat.
This is not multiple personality disorder. That's one of the first things people ask, and the answer is no. It simply means you're human.
I find that beautiful, honestly.
How Parts Work Actually Helps
We start by identifying what you're feeling and the main challenges showing up in your life. That gives us insight into which parts might be most present.
From there, I guide you through visualization techniques, somatic-based skills, and specific questions designed to help us both understand what's happening inside. We begin mapping your inner system together, identifying triggers, the specific needs of certain parts, and what's actually driving the reactions you've been confused or frustrated by.
This will feel different from traditional talk therapy. And that's the point.
Talk therapy is powerful for building insight and understanding the why. But the parts of the brain that hold trauma, emotion, and body memory aren't always reached through language alone. Parts work builds a bridge to get there, accessing the felt, sensory layers of experience that can keep people stuck even after years of doing the work.
This approach is gentle, compassion-focused, and non-judgmental. We don't force any part to feel better before it's ready. We meet each one where it is.
Even if this sounds strange or unfamiliar, I encourage you to reach out. It might be exactly what's been missing.
What Shifts When It Works
People describe it differently, but there's a common thread.
“I feel lighter.”
“I have a clarity I never knew I could have.”
“I’m not pleasing everyone anymore. I feel strong.”
“Things that used to set me off just don’t hit the same way”
“My chest feels lighter coming out of these sessions.”
“I’m astonished. With all the years of therapy I’ve done, just wow.”
Coping skills that weren't landing before start to click.
The clients I work with begin acting in ways that are aligned with their actual goals, not because they're forcing it, but because something inside has shifted.
Some find kindness for themselves for the first time.
Why I Work This Way
I came to parts work through my own healing.
I started with EMDR training and saw real results, but something felt like it was missing, especially for clients carrying complex or long-term trauma. When I discovered parts work and completed additional training, it became the missing link. It's now the foundation of how I see every client, not as a diagnosis or a set of symptoms, but as a whole person with an inner world that is waiting to be understood.
On a personal level, this was the approach that helped me start to actually feel different, not just understand what was happening. That's not something I take for granted.
I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with additional training in a Relational Model for Parts and Ego State Work in EMDR Therapy. I work with adults in North Carolina and Colorado via telehealth.
My guiding philosophy to therapy.
The body is where the deepest healing happens.
Feelings, memories, and old patterns aren't just stored in thoughts. They live in the nervous system and the body's memory of what happened. Bringing the body into the healing process is what allows the deepest patterns to finally shift.
The goal is to move what’s been stuck.
For people carrying long-term or complex patterns, the work goes deeper than building a toolkit. The aim is to help whatever has been frozen or held for too long start to actually release.
Healing isn’t linear, and there’s no fixed protocol.
Some people are ready to go deep from the first session. Others need months to build the foundation before we get there. The work moves at the pace your system can handle.
I meet you where you are.
Every person brings a different story and a different set of needs. I don't bring a rigid framework. I bring curiosity, attunement, and a genuine commitment to understanding what you specifically need.
The relationship is part of the healing.
Feeling genuinely seen, heard, and met without judgment is itself reparative. That's something I take seriously in every session.
If You’ve Been Searching for Something That Actually Gets to the Root of It
If you've spent years feeling like you're living slightly outside yourself, like there's a version of you waiting underneath all the noise, this work was built for that.
You don't need to have it figured out before you reach out. That's what we do together.
The brain wants to heal. It just needs someone to help it learn the language it's already speaking.
Hi, I’m Julia.
I got into this work because I've seen what real healing looks like. And I've seen what it looks like when it doesn't happen.
Across every setting I've worked in, jails, inpatient hospitals, clinics, group practices, I kept meeting people who were trying so hard. Showing up, doing the work, and still feeling stuck. That stayed with me.
It's part of why I'm so drawn to EMDR, parts work, and somatic therapy. Not just as a clinician, but as someone who has done this work myself. I know what it feels like to understand something about yourself and still not feel any different. I also know what it feels like when something finally shifts, when the body starts to release what it's been holding onto for years.
That's what I want for the people I work with.
Watching someone who has spent years just surviving start to actually live. Seeing them feel lighter, more like themselves. Knowing that one person's healing ripples out into everything around them.
That's why I show up every day.
HOW I WORK
Every person who comes to me has a different story. But the work follows the same foundation:
We begin by assessing what's fragmented in your mind and body, and we build from there.
Building internal safety first
As we begin addressing the current symptoms you’re experiencing, you’ll likely move through some uncomfortable feelings. That’s where my holistic approach to therapy comes in. When your body and mind feel disjointed, it can be very difficult to feel safe. Your mind is saying one thing, but your body is trying to communicate another. Through emotional and somatic processing, as well as bilateral stimulation, I help you build a sense of internal safety and cohesion.
This holistic approach to your body and mind lays the foundation for EMDR.
PARTS WORK - SOMATIC
Processing what's been stored.
From there, we bring in EMDR & Somatic therapy. Bilateral stimulation along with the EMDR protocol helps the brain and nervous system integrate what hasn’t been properly processed, often material that has never been fully reached through talking alone. The body begins to release what it's been holding. Slowly, the patterns that once felt impossible to shift start to move. The mind and body work together to process what has been stored.
EMDR - SOMATIC
At your pace, always
There's no fixed protocol here. Some people are ready to go deep from the very first session. Others need months to build the foundation before we get there. I follow your lead and work at the pace your system can handle.
ATTUNED CARE
The goal throughout is the same: not just understanding what happened, but actually feeling different because of the work.
