An Integrative, Holistic Approach to Therapy
I’m here to help you feel whole again.
My approach to therapy focuses on helping your body and mind reintegrate and synchronize so you can achieve a long-lasting feeling of peace and clarity.
At Sapphire Waters Counseling, I understand that trauma is complex. But my mission is simple: to help you experience real change at the root.
Trauma and stress can sever the mind from the body, making everything feel disjointed and out of sorts.
Because trauma fragments the mind. And disconnects you from the body.
And working with both is where some of the deepest healing becomes possible.
Why talk therapy isn’t enough.
Traditional talk therapy is important.
It’s how we begin to identify and name what’s happening.
It’s how we gain understanding and insight into our past and present.
It’s critical for processing effectively.
But for too long, it’s been the only tool in therapy. And, unfortunately, when it comes to chronic stress and trauma, it falls short.
You can articulate exactly what happened and why, but:
You still feel terrible and can't seem to change.
You’re stuck in the same patterns
You’re in survival mode, running on fumes.
Talk therapy alone cannot move trauma through your body.
If you want to feel different in your body, you need to integrate a holistic approach.
MY APPROACH
Parts work, Somatic Therapy and EMDR
My approach integrates three modalities, which I use fluidly throughout our sessions to help you achieve deep healing.
Parts Work (IFS-informed)
I help you identify the different "parts" of yourself, protective parts, younger wounded parts, and build a compassionate internal relationship among them. Rather than jumping straight into memory reprocessing, I use parts work as a bridge, providing the language and internal safety needed to reach deeper trauma wounds.
PARTS WORK - SOMATIC
EMDR
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation while gently focusing on distressing memories, emotions, beliefs, and body sensations. This helps the brain and body reprocess experiences that may still feel stuck, activating the nervous system. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not rely only on words alone; it works with the body, emotions, and felt experience of trauma.
EMDR - SOMATIC
Somatic Therapy
People with chronic pain or trauma histories often don’t feel safe in their bodies. Neurodivergent, empathic, and highly sensitive individuals may experience the external world as especially intense, unpredictable, or difficult to filter. They may all have learned to ignore physical and emotional sensations in order to survive. Through body-based and nervous-system-focused work, I can help you reconnect with your body.
ATTUNED CARE
My guiding philosophy to therapy.
The body and mind are not separate.
Addressing thoughts alone doesn't get us to the deepest healing. Trauma, stress, and mental health issues are a full-body issue. Bringing the body into the healing process is what allows the deepest patterns to finally shift.
The goal is to help your body let go and find a new way of responding to the world around you.
I want more for my clients than just getting through the week. For people carrying long-term pain or complex trauma, there's often material that hasn't been fully reached yet. That's what I'm focused on, helping the body and nervous system actually process and release what's been stored there.
Healing isn't linear, and there's no fixed protocol.
Some people are ready to go deep from the very first session. Others need months to build the foundation before we get there. I follow your lead. The work moves at the pace your system can handle, and that looks different for everyone.
Meeting you where you are.
Every person who walks in brings a different story, a different history, and a different set of needs. I'm not here to fit you into a framework. I'm here to actually get to know you and figure out together what you need.
The relationship is part of the healing.
I genuinely care about the people I work with. Feeling safe, understood, and not judged in the room matters enormously. That connection is something I take seriously in every single session.
Why it works.
If traditional talk therapy has helped you understand your patterns but hasn’t helped you feel truly unstuck, you may need an approach that goes deeper than insight alone. I don’t believe therapy should feel rigid or formulaic.
I meet you where you are as a whole person, body, mind, and soul, and work holistically with all the parts of you to move towards healing.
Rather than just following one model, I’ve found that integrating all three approaches enables the deepest healing. The parts work helps you build internal safety, clarity, and understanding, while somatic therapy helps you connect to your body, and then EMDR does the work of actually moving unprocessed material through your brain and body so it can finally be stored away, and you find relief.
The Outcome: Real Change at the Root
You are not just a mind. You are also a body.
And when you finally treat the whole self, you experience the kind of healing that lets you feel like yourself again.
You move from surviving to actually living.
You’re finally able to work after anxiety had made it impossible
You achieve lasting sobriety after repeated relapses
You leave relationships that have been harmful for years
You’re feeling calm and grounded instead of constantly braced for impact
You’re no longer avoiding difficult emotions when they arise
My clients describe the shift they feel:
“I feel like I'm coming back to myself."
I feel like I can breathe."
"I'm not just surviving anymore."
Even if you’ve seen 10 different therapists and came in super skeptical, you’ll find that the work here is different. And you won’t be able to believe how far you’ve come.
Because that’s what happens when you experience real change at the root.
Hi, I’m Julia.
I got into this work because I've seen what real healing looks like. And I've seen what it looks like when it doesn't happen.
Across every setting I've worked in, jails, inpatient hospitals, clinics, group practices, I kept meeting people who were trying so hard. Showing up, doing the work, and still feeling stuck. That stayed with me.
It's part of why I'm so drawn to EMDR, parts work, and somatic therapy. Not just as a clinician, but as someone who has done this work myself. I know what it feels like to understand something about yourself and still not feel any different. I also know what it feels like when something finally shifts, when the body starts to release what it's been holding onto for years.
That's what I want for the people I work with.
Watching someone who has spent years just surviving start to actually live. Seeing them feel lighter, more like themselves. Knowing that one person's healing ripples out into everything around them.
That's why I show up every day.
Ready for a different approach?
If you want to finally feel like yourself again, I’d love to work with you.
There’s nothing that brings me more joy than that moment you are finally unburdened by everything your body has been holding.
Real change at the root is possible.
